THE MAGPIES LOSE A NAIL-BITER IN CHICAGO

The Dallas Magpies lost a heart breaker this weekend against a strong home side in Chicago.  The final score: 11.8(72) to 11.13(79). The game, played in front of approx 300 people on the banks of Lake Michigan was a great game from the first bounce. The first quarter saw the game even at the break at 3 goals apiece.The second half saw the Pies kick away to a 5 goals lead mid way through the 3rd quarter before Chicago came storming back to bring it within 2 goals in the last break. Chicago proved too strong in the final term to steal the game away in the final minutes.

 

THE MAGPIES DEFEAT ST LOUIS

The Dallas Magpies notched up their sixth win this weekend easily accounting for a struggling St. Louis side.  The final score: 22.10(142) to 6.8(48).  Dallas got off to a great start in the first quarter and the put it into cruise control to extend their lead at each and every quarter break.

 

THE MAGPIES DEFEAT CINCINNATI IN THE HEAT

The Dallas Magpies notched up their fifth win of the year in 100+ degree heat on Saturday against the Cincinnati Dockers at Lookout Park.  The Magpies jumped out to a 7 goal lead in the first quarter, then held off a determined Cincinnati team the rest of the way to win with a score of: 13.9(97) to 2.2(14). THE MAGPIES WIN FIRST ANNUAL CRAWFISH CUP

The Dallas Magpies notched up their third and fourth wins of the season while playing in the Baton Rouge Crawfish Cup this past Saturday. Dallas played Houston in the first game of the day and ran out comfortable victors 6.3(39) to 4.4(28). While in the championship game, Dallas had much tougher time to put Baton Rouge away, but in the end held off the home team 14.6(90) to 0.2(2). [Statistics].

 

THE MAGPIES DEFEAT ATLANTA ON THE ROAD

The Dallas Magpies notched up their second win of the year on the road against the Atlanta Kookaburras on Saturday afternoon in perfect Atlanta May weather. The Magpies making their first travel game of the year were worried that injuries from key players Benjie Bliss (groin), Jared Ray (ankle), Glen Paton (shoulder), Grant Cambell (wrist), and Jess Wortman (finger) were going to affect the outcome of this game, but evening things out saw Atlanta put 3 of their key players (2 revolution players) on injury reserve prior to the game - It was a battle of attrition from the beginning. THE MAGPIES GO ON THE ROAD TO ATLANTA

The Dallas Magpies play their first road game this weekend against the Atlanta Kookaburras this Saturday at 2:30pm. Both teams have come off a loss in the round 1 of the MAAFL season so will be looking towards getting back on track with a win. In the past two encounters of these teams the win has gone to the home team. Atlanta narrow victors in 2004 and Dallas handing the Kookaburras a football lesson last year on a very warm summer’s day in Dallas, Texas.

 

THE MAGPIES GO DOWN TO THE LIONS

The Dallas Magpies lost their second game in two weeks at the hands of the San Diego Lions. The game marked the return of Brandon Blankenship to the Metroplex, as its was his first game back in Dallas since 2004 since he was traded to the Lions for 2 first round draft picks in 2005. THE MAGPIES GO DOWN TO THE BOMBERS

The Dallas Magpies lost their first game of the year to the Milwaukee Bombers going down 10.17 (77) to 5.8 (38) in MAAFL Round 1. For the past two seasons, both the Dallas Magpies and the Milwaukee Bombers contended for the MAAFL title, so this game had significant implications for their overall seasons.  Although their recent history against each other had Milwaukee ahead by a 2-1 advantage, the Magpies utilized a victory against the Bombers in round 1 of the MAAFL in 2005 to springboard their undefeated season. I attended my second Wombat practice this past Saturday.  It was a typical swelteringly hot and humid day in the Merlion City.  Being a "rookie" to their team, I was tasked with icing the beer for after practice.  I'm not sure what fitness book says that a beer after exercise is good, but these guys are adamant believers. DALLAS DEFEATS THE ROUGE IN HOME OPENER

The Dallas Magpies Australian Football Club continued it's 2005 form on the weekend with a very convincing 88-point victory over the Baton Rouge Tigers.  Such perfect conditions for football in Dallas are rarely enjoyed more, and there was never any doubt that the Magpies were looking to retain a winning record against the Tigers.  Dallas now moves to 4-0 again the Cajun visitors.  There will be another 2006 clash on Baton Rouge's home turf later in the year. KICKING IT WITH THE WOMBATS!!

I'm staffed in Singapore and unable to join the Magpies in their quest to defend last year's championship (at least for the first half of the season), so I'm left looking for other teams to train/play with. Fortunately, Singapore is chock-full of Aussie expats so it took just a bit of Googling before I found the Singapore Wombats Football Club. I spent a few days talking to their recruiting manager, Bill, and was set up for practice on the following Saturday.  I showed up to practice a bit nervous .….[Full Story].

THE MAGPIES REDESIGN THE UNFORM FOR 2006

DALLAS MAGPIES - 2005 MAAFL CHAMPIONS!

The Dallas Magpies capped of an undefeated season by beating last years premiers, the St. Louis Blues, by 26 points to win their first Mid American Australian Football League Championship.

The history that these two clubs share dates back to 2003 when the teams tied for first place. St. Louis ran out eventual winners with a higher percentage and claimed the MAAFL championship. [Full Story]. Also read [Presidents Report].

MAGPIES PUT HOME IN HOMETOWN

The Dallas Magpies Australian Rules Football Club has been hammering opponents all season, but on July 29, the club did a different kind of hammering. The Magpies participated in the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity home building blitz held in conjunction with the “Global Day of Prayer” build. [Full Story].

 

DALLAS REMAIN UNDEFEATED (6-0), DOWNS TIGERS IN THE RAIN

In the pouring rain, Dallas continued its winning ways, traveling to Baton Rouge to take on the Tigers. The weather was far from welcoming, as the storm clouds seemed to hang about the ground the entire day.

THE MAGPIES GIVE ATLANTA A WARM DALLAS WELCOME

June 31st 2005

The Magpies avenged their last second loss to Atlanta last year in convincing fashion at Lookout Park on the weekend. The match was blown open in the first 10 minutes of the game when the Magpie midfield won every contest and repeatedly pushed the ball forward presenting many scoring opportunities for the Forward line.

The final score: Dallas 17.14 (116) to Atlanta 5.3 (33).

The Dallas Magpies kept their unbeaten season alive by handily beating the Cincinnati Dockers in Cincinnati on Saturday.

The win now puts the Magpies one game ahead of the St. Louis Blues and the Chicago Swans who narrowly

THE MAGPIES SWARM THE SWANS IN FIRST MAAFL HOME GAME

The Dallas Magpies accuracy around the goals was the difference in the weekend’s match up against the Chicago Swans at Lookout Park. The temperature was a scorching 97 degrees, but both teams seemed to handle the heat without too much difficulty.

USAFL SIGNS A THREE YEAR TELEVISION DEAL

In possibly one of the most dramatic developments in the history of Australian Rules, the USAFL has reportedly signed a 3-year contract with the new All Sports Television Network.
