MAGPIES TO TEST NEW TALENT AGAINST THE KOOKABURRAS OF ATLANTA
DALLAS — The Dallas Magpies are looking to avenge
2004’s last second loss to the Atlanta Kookaburra’s this weekend.
The game will be played at the Magpies home field,
Lookout Park, on Saturday the 25th of June at 2pm Admission is Free.
The home game will put the undefeated Magpies (3-0 in
the MAAFL, 4-0 overall) up against the 4th placed Kookaburras (1-1
in the MAAFL, 3-2 overall) in a bid to
maintain their hold on first place in the Mid-American Australian Football
League.
Last year, the Magpies lead by four points with under
a minute remaining. But a final seconds effort by the Kookaburras saw them kick
a goal just before the final siren sounded. The game played in Atlanta, Georgia
on August 28th was the first ever game played between Dallas and
Atlanta, as it was Atlanta’s first year in the MAAFL.
The Kookaburras will be looking to knock the Magpies
off top spot this weekend. As the second game in the rivalry between these two
teams, the Magpies will be trying to even the score. This MAAFL match will be a
crucial game for both squads as they try to get a leg up in the 2005 league
race and the coveted automatic Division I bid in the USAFL National Tournament.
“This game will likely be the best
game of the year to be played in Dallas,” Coach Rackham said. “Atlanta are a
tall physical team, and play a similar style of footy as we do. But we’re
coming off a great performance in Cincinnati where every player contributed to
a win, and we’ll need that same type of effort Saturday”.
“I’ve seen tremendous improvement
in our play already this year, and I expect it to continue against the Kookaburras,”
he added.
